  • Regulatory Bodies and Licensing

In the United States, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is the primary regulatory body. Drone pilots must comply with FAA regulations.

Pilots operating drones for commercial purposes must obtain a Remote Pilot Certificate from the FAA.

    Key FAA Regulations

Drones must weigh less than 55 pounds (25 kg).

Pilots must keep the drone within visual line-of-sight.

Drones cannot fly above 400 feet (122 meters) in controlled airspace without FAA authorization.

Operations over moving vehicles or unprotected people are restricted.

Night flying is permissible under certain conditions, such as having proper lighting on the drone.

    Restricted Areas

    Airports:

Drones are generally prohibited from flying near airports to avoid interference with manned aircraft.

    National Parks:

The National Park Service (NPS) prohibits drone flights within national park boundaries to preserve the natural experience and protect wildlife.

    Sensitive Government Facilities:

Flights near military bases, prisons, and power plants are typically restricted.

    Urban Areas:

City-specific regulations may apply, often restricting drone flights in densely populated areas for safety and privacy reasons.

    Privacy Considerations

Drone operators must respect privacy laws. Capturing images or videos of people in private settings without consent can lead to legal issues.
